Growth of Helminthosporium fulvum on Different Nitrogen Sources

Maccido Ibrahim, Ayuba Ismaila

This research work was conducted in the mycology laboratory of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto. The growth of Helminthosporium fulvum on different nitrogen sources was investigated. The nitrogen sources used include arginine, sodium dioxonitrate (III), sodium trioxonitrate (v), ammonium chloride and tyrosine. Arginine supported the highest growth of the fungus then followed by the growth in ammonium chlorine. While growth in sodium dioxonitrite (III) was found to be the least. This could be attributed to its toxic nature in acidic medium.
